Custom Anime Jacket: Hand-Painted Dabi from My Hero Academia
A few years ago, I completed a custom wearable art commission for a client who wanted something truly personal and expressive. The request? A hand-painted illustration of Dabi, the iconic villain from My Hero Academia, painted directly onto a denim-style jacket.
Using acrylic paints, I brought Dabi’s intense and mysterious energy to life across the back panel of the jacket. From his dark flame aesthetic to the signature blue tones and stitched scars, I paid close attention to detail while adapting the anime style to the textured surface of fabric. Painting on clothing presents a unique challenge — the fabric absorbs paint differently than traditional materials, and every stroke needs to balance durability with precision.
This piece gave me the chance to combine my love for character illustration with hands-on creative craftsmanship. It pushed me to adapt my technique and think beyond digital work — transforming a simple jacket into a wearable statement piece of anime fandom and art.
The result was a one-of-a-kind item that not only thrilled the client but also reminded me how custom design can empower individuality and storytelling through fashion.
